Sometimes, I will notice that a patient has one or two teeth, toward the front, that are smaller than the other teeth.
They will mention that they don’t like the spacing and shape of these teeth, because the kind of look like baby teeth.
Underdeveloped teeth are a very common trait in adult patients.
Many people will see their adult teeth come in and one or two of them will be almost the same size as a baby tooth and look a little pointed.
These teeth are called microdontia or small tooth.
The one that is the most common is the lateral incisor which is the tooth directly next to the 2 front teeth.
These smaller “peg” laterals really affect the teeth proportions and ultimately the beauty of your smile.
Now, we have several solutions to help restore those smaller sized teeth to look like their proper size and shape.
The different materials that can be used, range from bonding to porcelain. These methods are very conservative and do not require any shaving down of the existing tooth structure.
