Growing up I was a Cubs fan. It’s the one baseball team where I attended the most games.
My father’s business was very close to Wrigley Field and I would drive past the ballpark all the time. I didn’t know many kids in my neighborhood that were Sox fans. Maybe they existed but they weren’t vocal about it.
Where we live now, Cubs vs Sox is pretty even. But something pretty ingenious has happened.
The Sox have invested some money into their little league baseball teams and has required all of the teams to be called the Sox.
The way these teams are identified is by their sponsors. For example, Finn’s team is sponsored by Santiago’s Mexican Restaurant. So they are called the Santiago’s Sox.
They also took the kids, pre-pandemic, to some of the Sox games. They are brilliant because they are laying the positive childhood memories to help develop them into future diehard Sox fans.
The same way that positive memories can create positive lifelong behavior, negative ones can create long term negative behaviors.
For many children, having a negative dental experience, can cause these kids to grow up being dental phobic adults, that avoid the dentist.
Fear is a huge deterrent and keep many people from receiving the dental care they desperately need.
For many, they wait until the pain is so bad that they just force themselves to get into the dentist to address that one issue.
If these patients came in sooner and addressed their dental issues before they become painful, most of them would be able to avoid extremely painful dental issues.
Getting in and overcoming their fear is the hardest part.
We understand that many people avoid the dentist because of fear. That is why we offer anxiety free dentistry to help them overcome their dental phobia.
We give these patients anxiety reducing pills that help them have a great relaxed experience.
Floss like a madman!
