For the last couple of years, I’ve had some discomfort in my lower abdominal area. I wasn’t worried and I just chalked it up to getting older.
One day all of a sudden a bump appeared in that area and felt like a severe muscle pull.
When I first saw it, my mind started going negative and I started wondering if it was cancer. But then I noticed this bump would come and go. Having it disappear reassured me that it was nothing serious.
I called my doctor and that same day he got me in, confirming that I had a hernia.
I was given a referral and within a week I was ready to get this thing fixed.
Leading up to the surgery, a bunch of my friends who already had the surgery, let me know about their horrible experience.
They let me know how tough their recovery had been and how, more than likely, mine would be similar. This made me feel very anxious, leading up to my procedure.
The night before the surgery, I slept horribly, expecting the worst.
I got to the hospital and the entire team was awesome. This helped to settle me down. Each member of the surgery team, came in to introduce themselves. This helped relax me even more.
The surgery went as expected and the discomfort was way less than all my friends described.
All in all, the post surgical experience was slightly uncomfortable, but way better than I anticipated.
