When Finn first began school, he was not understanding math. He would cry when we had to do math problems.
He would say things like, “I’m stupid. I’m not good at math.”
I began doing flash cards and started to do the easy ones first, trying to build up his confidence. Then I would introduce the more difficult flash cards.
He would get some of those wrong and he would slam his fist on the table in frustration. I would set it aside and then show him the flash card at the end of our session.
He would then get it right the second time.
I believe that being good at math has a lot to do with being confident with math. And Finn’s confidence has been building up, day by day.
Yesterday we were working on a difficult math problem. He grabbed his paper and pencil and solved it. I looked at the problem to check his math and it was completely right. He showed all his work and it was obvious that he understood what he was doing.
I yelled out, “YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!! YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!!” He then turned to me and said, “Let’s do another one.”
I wrote out 3 more problems and made them really complicated. And he got them all right.
At that moment I saw the lightbulb turn on and he understood the concepts.
His math confidence has grown exponentially.
Confidence influences a lot of things, including dentistry.
Many people who are afraid of going to the dentist, are not confidence that the appointment will go well. And this cause great anxiety for them.
For these people, Anxiety Free Dentistry is recommended, to get them through the appointment.
The patient will take an anxiety reducing pill the night before and another one the morning of the appointment.
For many, these appointments are great. During the appointment, the patient is relaxed and comfortable. After the appointment, most of the time, the recovery is uneventful.
Each time they have a successful appointment their confidence goes up and up.
Most of these patients develop such a trust and confidence with us, that they no longer require anxiety reducing medication.
If you are anxious about going to the dentist and would like to get an Anxiety Free Dental consultation, please visit us at mydente.com or call us at 773-292-1911.
