My son, Finn, will regularly ask me to watch TV with him.
99% of the shows he picks are just unwatchable. They are shows like Sponge Bob Square Pants, Captain Underpants, or some kid YouTuber.
Typically, I’ll begin watching his show and at about the 5 minute mark, I am completely bored. I start looking at my phone and going through the internet.
I really really try to get through these child shows but I just can’t.
Two days ago I walked into the house and he wanted me to watch one of his shows on Nickelodeon.
He said, “Dad can you watch this show with me?” Reluctantly I responded, “Yes.”
We go to the couch and he will snuggle up against me. His head and body will lean against my chest as I wrap my right arm hugging him. My left hand is free with my cell phone, ready to bail me out from the boredom.
He grabbed the remote and turned to the channel to begin his show.
All of a sudden, I recognized the theme song, “I’ll Be There For You.” Then I began recognizing all of the characters…Joey, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Ross.
We were laughing through the entire show and it was such a great bonding experience with Finn and I.
I was expecting one experience and it turned out that I had a much better time than I expected.
This happens with many people at the dental office.
Many people will have a really bad dental experience, that will create a huge fear of the dentist.
This bad experience is now their new benchmark as to how a dental appointment should go.
They feel that in order to get through a dental appointment, they just need to grin and bear it.
Many people don’t know that there are other ways of controlling their anxiety during their dental appointment.
Most of these patients are able to get more work done at once, comfortably and in a relaxed state.
