I’ve always been a classic rock and 90’s kind of guy.
I like listening to Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Dave Matthews, and so on. I never listen to pop.
It’s not a bad thing, it’s just not my style.
About 18 years ago, I was dating a woman that really liked Maroon 5. Maroon 5 was coming to Chicago, and she wanted to go. I couldn’t even name a Maroon 5 tune. I didn’t know anything about the band.
When we got to the venue I was in complete shock.
Me and my date found our seats and we were the only people still sitting in our seats. Every girl around us was singing every word to every song. They would all scream at the beginning of every song.
I was completely out of my element.
While my date had to go to the restroom, and I stayed in my seat.
From the moment she stepped away, I was feeling really uncomfortable. I began looking around and as far as can tell, I was the only dude in the entire venue. I was 32 years old at the time and I was feeling like the creepy old guy. I was really fidgety in my seat. I kept looking at my watch to see how long she had been gone.
I was imagining that every person there was looking at me as the creep. Finally, my date came back to the seat, and I couldn’t be more relieved.
I was imagining that every person there was looking at me but I’m pretty sure no one even noticed me. If someone had, they probably thought that I was a dad bringing my daughter to the concert.
Many times, we imagine things to be a lot worse than they actually are.
We see this all the time in dentistry.
People will create worse case scenarios all the time, in their heads. Scientists have said that it’s parts of our primitive fight or flight instincts.
Many people will avoid going to the dentist because they are afraid of the news they will hear. They imagine their mouth will be a complete disaster. Most of the time the news is a much better than expected.
If you have avoided the dentist because you are afraid of the news, know that you are not alone, and we can help. Please call 773-292-1911 or visit us at mydente.com to schedule a consultation today!
