One of the biggest things that I love about Christmas time, is that certain foods became available.
One of my favorites is Turron de Alicante. This is a very Cuban/Spanish Christmas tradition. Turron is this hard almond nougat made of honey and almonds. It is absolutely delicious.
We see this type of seasonal foods in a lot of different holidays. Here in the US, we see Egg Nog and fruit cakes sold during Christmas. At Thanksgiving, we see a spike with turkey sales. During Easter, people traditionally eat ham.
In dentistry, we see these traditions as well.
For example, a lot of people have their dental cleanings every 6 months. This is a tradition that was started some 60 years ago by a toothpaste company.
The company randomly picked this timeframe of every 6 months and all of a sudden, Americans began getting their teeth every 6 months.
Sometimes, coming in every 6 months is sufficient to keep a persons mouth and teeth clean and white. But a lot of the times, in order to keep the teeth and gums at a healthy condition, a more frequent cleaning schedule is required.
