During the pandemic, Finn and his friends used video games to connect with each other. These video games have products that upgrade the performance of the video game. It was getting out of hand with all the product upgrades he was buying.
I told him that he needed to do chores, to make some money, to pay for these video game upgrades.
He washes mine and Sarah’s car, about once a week.
Now he’s on this kick that he wants to begin a lawn mowing business.
Whenever I can connect his lawn business to learning something new, I’m all over it.
When we were at my friend’s house this weekend, he was telling my friend, that he wanted me to buy him a lawn mower. Then he could start a lawn mowing business.
I told him that he needed to focus on getting the word out, about his business, so he can gain clients. Just because you have a lawn mower, doesn’t mean you’ll have customers. My friend told him that he needed to learn how to do computer coding. If you knew how to code, then you can attract customers online.
His son was in town from U of I. He’s an engineering grad and is now working on his PhD in artificial intelligence. Eamon’s mom said, “Finn, Eamon is here and he could teach you how to code.”
At first, he was intimidated but then began getting the hang of it. Each time he added a new code, he saw his video game become more functional, and he became more enthusiastic.
Most times, when we perceive something as a big task, we are reluctant to start. Once we see ourselves gaining momentum, then we become more enthusiastic.
This is no different in dentistry.
At times, a recommended dental treatment can seem overwhelming. Most of the time, people know they need a lot of treatment but avoid going to the dentist, because of the overwhelming nature of getting it done.
Once you get that momentum going, and you start to see your teeth and gums change into a healthier state, it is an exciting accomplishment.
Most people will take it one step at a time, knocking off treatment little by little. Each time, is one step closer to the finish line.
