In our neighborhood, around Halloween, people will ring your doorbell and when you go open the door, no one is there.
When you look down there is a brown paper bag. You bend down and open the bag. Inside you see a bag full of candy and a note. The note says, “You’ve been Booed.”
It describes how someone has picked you to spread the Halloween spirit and it’s your duty to pass on this great cheer.
Finn decided to Boo his friend Mac.
I went to the store to buy our supplies.
We waited until it was dark as to go undetected. We pulled up to the house and I parked the car two houses away.
I instructed Finn, “Go to the door, place the bag on the floor, ring the doorbell and run very fast.”
Finn was wearing flip flops and decided to take them off to give himself an edge on his running speed.
He goes to the door and does exactly as we instructed but he ran into a little obstacle. He came running back, jumped in the car and immediately yelled, “I’ve been caught. They have the Ring doorbell.”
Later that evening, Sarah texted Mac’s mom, Katie, and confessed our Halloween mischief.
Katie began to laugh and said she caught it all on tape. Finn had rung the doorbell and noticed he was on Ring. He then saluted the camera and ran off yelling “They have Ring!” She sent us the video, and it was hilarious to see him salute and run away.
Unexpected events is normal in life and in dentistry.
The question isn’t, “Are you going to encounter an unexpected event?” but rather, “How are you going to handle it, when the unexpected happens?”
I have unexpected things happen all the time in dentistry.
The key to handling obstacles properly is having a lot of experience and seeing every kind of situation possible.
Being a dentist for almost 20 years has helped me see a lot of different scenarios. I have failed a lot and have always figured out how to resolve the situation,
There are very few things that freak me out anymore because I know I can withstand the challenge and figure it out.
