I go through periods, where I sleep great and where my sleep isn’t as good.
Sometimes I will hit the pillow and don’t wake up until the next morning. On those days, I feel like a super star. Totally recharged and full of energy.
There are other times, when I will wake up in the middle of the night and find it completely difficult to get back to sleep.
I will look at the clock and think, “Oh no, I have 3 hours until I get back up. I need to get back to sleep.” But I have a huge difficulty getting back to sleep.
This type of fixation on the time and my inability to sleep, will create a huge amount of anxiety. I begin to think how rough work will be, with this little amount of sleep.
The more that I think about it, the more I worry about it. And the less likely I will get back to sleep.
This type of ruminating happens in dentistry as well.
They will think of how they need to see the dentist. The more they think of going to the dentist the more nervous they get.
This is true with almost anything. The more you think about something and all the possible things that could happen, the more anxious one gets. For people with a dental fear, this is the pattern that keeps them from making an appointment and receiving dental treatment.
At Dente, we recognize this fear. This is why we offer Anxiety Free Dentistry.
Most of these patients will state how their Anxiety Free Dentistry appointment was the most pleasant appointment they’ve ever had.
If you are nervous about going to the dentist and would like an Anxiety Free Dental consultation, please call 773-292-1911 for your appointment.
