This last weekend, I watched a Netflix show of Frank Sinatra called “All or Nothing at All.”
It is a documentary series of Sinatra’s life. I loved it and am hooked.
My grandfather had a massive collection of big band, salsa, jazz, classical, and opera music. A big part of our time together was listening to his large collection of albums. We would listen to Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Nat King Cole, Louie Armstrong, and many others.I would sit on his lap and he would tell me stories about how Nat King Cole played in Havana, in the 50’s. My grandfather had this recliner. I would sit on his lap and he would tap my stomach to the beat of the music.
As I got older and became a teenager, I would bring my albums so he could listen to the music that I liked. I remember I would put Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimmy Hendrix and the other classic rock albums and he would say, “This is not singing, they are yelling.” I would laugh and turn it up. Even though he hated that type of music, he never made me take it off. To this day, I have a huge range of music because of my grandfathers influence. Good memories.
