This is one of the most common questions people ask me: Should I Floss First or Brush First?
And my answer is…..
It doesn’t matter.
If you floss before you brush your teeth, or you brush first, it doesn’t matter the sequence.
I floss first. I simply got into the habit of doing it first because I hated to floss initially. So my evening ritual began with me flossing my teeth first. I just wanted to get the flossing out of the way first because I hated it. (At work, my wife calls it “eating the frog,” or “Do the worst thing first.”)
It would take me a half hour in the very beginning to floss my teeth. It was so time consuming and it hurt with lots of bleeding.
Now, I never miss a day of flossing my teeth and sometimes floss my teeth twice per day. Once you get into the habit and notice the benefits you will become addicted to it, just the way that I have.
So, my answer to the question: Is it better to floss first or floss after brushing? There is no additional dental health benefit with the sequence.
But if you knock off the thing you hate first, you will be more likely to floss on a more consistent basis.
