We see a lot of patients during the year. Many of them have had a root canal (Removal of infection inside the tooth) procedure, at some point.
Sometimes, these root canals will cause the tooth to darken.
If it’s a back tooth, no big deal. It’s very easy to disguise. But with a front tooth, the discoloration could cause embarrassment and make you feel self-conscious about your smile. Many people will even avoid smiling because they don’t want people seeing their discolored tooth.
Sometimes it’s recommended to place a crown or a veneer over the discolored tooth.
Even with these restorations, the discoloration could bleed through, and the grayness or darkness is still visible.
I prefer to bleach the tooth from the inside, to whiten up the tooth. I feel that it’s a more conservative approach, that doesn’t require as much tooth structure to be removed, and I believe it looks more natural.
A few weeks ago, we performed an internal bleaching procedure on one our patients. I would like to show you the patient’s results. She was very happy with the final results, and I was very happy as well.
