Right now we are doing some construction in our house. For the last few weeks, we were staying in a hotel. I travel to Seattle a lot. I take dental continuing education courses there.
So whenever I go to Seattle, I stay at this particular hotel. The service is always great and most importantly its clean.
When we were looking for a place to stay, during our kitchen reno, we decided to stay at the same hotel here in Chicago. I assumed if it’s good in Seattle, it will be good in Chicago.
Not so much.
The one thing that I noticed was that the staff was just ok/nice, but it was nothing over the top. You always felt like you were bothering them.
The hallways always had a kind of lingering food smell. I just didn’t get an overall super clean feeling. It was ok, but not great.
This disparity of quality and experience that I felt with the same hotel in Seattle compared to Chicago has to do with the management running the hotel.
Not all hotels are created equal. Neither are dental offices.
There is a great movement in healthcare, including dentistry, to make healthcare a corporate business.
Many of these places are run by business people and hire providers (usually right out of school). Many of these offices will have a sterile environment and, at times, you will see a different dentist and hygienist at every one of your visits.
The most important thing in any organization is chemistry and culture. You feel it the second you walk in through the doors. You feel it the second you’re greeted with a warm and inviting smile. You feel like they care.
