For the last 3 months I’ve been working really hard to get my pandemic weight down.
I’ve been very careful with what I eat, and I’ve been very consistent with my working out.
I do my workouts in the mornings. That’s the best time for me. If I don’t do it in the mornings, then I won’t do it.
Sometimes, when the alarm goes off, I jump right out of bed.
Other times, when that alarm goes off, I have a really hard time waking up.
Today was one of those difficult wake up days.
Leg day for me is really hard. It hurts while I’m doing it and I’m completely exhausted after each set of leg exercises that I do.
So, when that alarm goes off, I begin talking to myself.
This is how the conversation to myself happens:
“What? It’s already time to wake up… but I’m so tired. You know what – You’ve been working so hard you deserve a day off.”
“A lot of people have been telling you how much weight you’ve lost. You’re getting momentum. Keep up the momentum and go in.”
“But the legs are so hard. I hate doing the leg workouts. I’m so tired and I’ll probably have a bad workout because I’m tired. I’ll just stay in bed.”
“NO! You can’t! You need to go because then you won’t complete all of your workouts for the week. And you are just starting to see your results. YOU NEED TO GO!”
Then I got up and moved around the house half asleep grabbing my gym bag.
When I finally got to the gym, I was fully awake.
As predicted, I HAAAAATTTTED my leg workout. It was hard and uncomfortable. After each movement I felt that I had ran a 50-yard dash. Breathing heavily, panting like a dog.
But after it was all done, I was happy that I did it. Even though it was hard and uncomfortable, I was happy that I did something that was good for me. Good for my health.
This is how many people feel when they go in for their dental appointment.
The reasons why people avoid the dentists are a mile long.
But there is a common response when the patient finally comes in and complete their treatment.
Whenever we accomplish things that are hard, it is rewarding. Even more so, when we do it for our own health. At the end of the process, you can proudly say, “You did it.”
