As a kid, during the summers, we lived at our neighborhood pool.
We were there from when they opened to when they closed. It was a great place to meet up with your friends and just horse around.
At the pool, the staff would create all kinds of activities for us like races and things like that.
One year, at the Devonshire Pool, they decided to throw hundreds of goldfish into the pool and have the kids jump in and capture them with their hands. I caught about 5 goldfish.
Once you caught them, a pool staff would run over and you would place them into a plastic bag.
I was so excited to have a new pet goldfish.
When I got home, my mom went out and bought a small tank where I could take care of my new pets. I put my goldfish in the tank and when I woke up the next morning all my fish were dead.
But later that day I found out that all of my friends’ goldfish had also died.
Apparently, goldfish can’t swim in chlorine. Hmmm. Didn’t think that one through.
Even though the pool staff looked really old to me, at the time, they were actually teenagers themselves, and had little experience running a pool.
I’m on my 19th year of working as a dentist and I’ve treated a lot of people. And in that time, I’ve gained a lot of experience.
