Kindergarten is when children begin to read.
My son, Finn, struggled with reading in kindergarten. He was having a hard time with sounding out the words and was falling behind with his class.
For some reason, he was just not getting it. His teacher would try to teach him, and it was not computing.
We were concerned he was going to be held back and have to repeat the year.
Then we received a referral from one of the teachers at Finn’s school. She referred us to Jan.
Jan was a retired teacher who specialized in teaching younger students how to read. My wife, Sarah, sprang into action and contacted Jan immediately.
That week, Sarah took Finn to Jan’s home. Jan had created this classroom in her basement.
Finn began to read that very first appointment with Jan. It was amazing to watch.
When I came home from work that day, Finn read me an entire book. It was that quick.
All he needed was to find the right person that he connected with, and the information began to stick.
Yesterday was the last day that Jan tutored Finn. She told us he was ready to move on and he didn’t need her anymore.
It was a bittersweet moment. It’s nice to see that he’s strong with his reading skills but it was sad to see her go.
There were a lot of tears when Jan said her goodbye. Jan was a great match and we found her through a referral.
Getting a referral through people that you trust, is the best way to find professionals.
It’s how I find most of the people I do business with. And for a majority of the times, it turns out to be a great referral.
That’s how your friends want to find their health care professionals too. Through your experiences and trusted referrals.
