I’m a huge Bears fan. It’s the only team and sport that I follow religiously. My love for the Bears began when I was a kid.I watched the games throughout the 80’s but became obsessed in the 85-86 football season. I was 15 years old and was glued to anything that had to do with the Bears.
I watched the Mike Ditka show on channel 2 before the games. I owned the Super Bowel Shuffle. And was hooked on all of the Bears commentary on the TV.
Walter Payton was my favorite all time Bears player. He was amazing to watch. But my other 2 favorite players were on the defense. Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael. I thought they were tough and never gave up.
Steve McMichael, in particular, is very funny, and I always found him to be lots of fun when being interviewed.
After he retired from the game, he became a commentator on the radio and offered post game commentary of the Bears games.
He would usually have me laughing and I liked tuning into his show.
This past weekend, Steve McMichael announced that he has been dealing with ALS. When I saw his photo that he released, he was unrecognizable. He has lost a lot of weight and was struggling to stand.
In the footage that I saw, he was with Walter Payton’s son, Jarrett Payton. Despite Steve’s physical appearance and illness, he still had his sense of humor. And this put a smile on my face
This made me think about how sometimes people or things change in appearance on the outside, but inwardly, the things that matter still remain the same.
When you look at Dente from the outside, you see the changes and protocols. (Good to have, of course.) You have to do a pre-screening symptom check-in, we have to wear masks, and do a ton of safety measures.
But if you slide in a little closer, you will see so much more. A friendly face. Stories about our families, Katie’s dog, Monty, and all the news you missed over the past few months. You still see your favorite dental team.
At the end of the day, our patients are excited to see us. You check to see how we are doing. You ask about our families, and we ask about yours. And when we part ways, we are happy that we had a chance to catch up. And my sense of humor is still intact.
Every week, when I am at Dente, a patent will tell me how happy they are to see us. That they are glad the business is thriving and how good it is do know that our families are healthy.
So even though things are different on the outside, we are here for you. Your dental office, a place to sit and catch up. Give us a call at 773-292-1911 or visit us at mydente.com.
