A few weeks ago, I went to a football scrimmage that my son participated in. The scrimmage was held in a park in Wheaton.
There were about 8 different teams that were participating in this scrimmage. And about 20 people taking charge at the scrimmage.
There were several people on golf carts, directing the players and family members to the area they needed to be.
They had this massive map in the middle of the park, with all of the team’s names. The map had the teams time slots and which field they were playing on.
People were walking around with walkie talkies, communicating with the other event organizers. The concession stand was open and already serving coffee to the half-sleepy parents.
This was an amazing, coordinated effort, that I was in complete awe.
This was a completely opposite experience than what I had, as a kid in sports. I always remembered, as a kid, our sporting events were complete chaos.
First, the coach was usually a dad. He would arrive about 5 to 10 minutes late. He would have a coffee in one hand and half eaten jelly doughnut in the other.
About 50 percent of the time, the coach would have some of the jelly fall onto his shirt. Then he would get there and spend a good 5 to 10 minutes, figuring out which field we were supposed to play on.
That was the old way of doing things and my Wheaton experience is the new way.
In dentistry, the old way was if you were afraid of the dentist… too bad. Just deal with it. Toughen up.
Nowadays, we understand that a good experience, means you will continue to care for your oral health long term.
We have new methods of dealing with anxious dental patients. It’s called Anxiety Free Dentistry.
Patients are given anxiety reducing medication to help control the anxiety. One pill the night before the appointment and one pill the morning of the appointment.
The results will show that the anesthetic takes affect quicker and will last longer in this relaxed state. What that means is a pain free appointment.
Most of our Anxiety Free dental patients, will report that their appointment was their best dental appointment ever.
If you are anxious about going to the dentist and would like an Anxiety Free Dental Consultation, visit us at mydente.com or please call 773-292-1911 to schedule your appointment.
