This week, one of my patients talked about when he started reading my story, he didn’t know where I was headed with it.
He began laughing and said, “You began talking about John Wayne Gacy, a serial killer, and I was thinking, “Where is he going with this one?”
Many times, people will tell me that they were not really sure where I was going with a particular story. But will understand it, once I finish.
I began to laugh hysterically, because when I was writing it, I was thinking, “ This is a dark, weird story.”
Most days, I don’t even know what I am going to write about.
When I get writers block, I get frustrated, and overwhelmed. I’ll start bugging the girls at the office, asking for ideas for my story. I sit in front of the computer, put my fingers on the keyboard, and then I’ll just start typing. Eventually, an idea will come to me.
I basically will write about things that happened in my life and how it affected me. Once I get that down on paper, I’ll think about how I can relate it to dentistry.
I have about 5 different themes or messages that I choose from, to show you what sets our office apart from others.
The key is to just get started and put something on paper. Action and doing something is the hardest part. Once you start, you’ve gotten over the hardest part.
This is no different in dentistry.
Many times people will get paralyzed with the thought of going to the dentist.
It becomes too overwhelming and we don’t know where to start.
Then we realize that it’s been a few years since we last saw the dentist and our mind goes into overdrive, we overthink it.
What if I need a lot of work?
What if it’s going to hurt?
What if it’s going to be expensive?
These are some of the questions that pop up in our minds.
We freak ourselves out and the large majority of the time, it turns out to be fine.
The key is take the first step and set up your appointment.
