One of the most exciting things to see with kids, is the amount of excitement they have for the little things. This weekend I witnessed one of Finn’s excited events.
Every couple of weeks I like to get my car washed. There’s one carwash, in particular, that I enjoy going to because they do such a great job.
It has an automatic part to the carwash where your car is placed on a track and goes through a series of mechanical brushes and water sprayers. The carwash has a window that allows you to watch your car as it goes through their system.
At the beginning of the carwash, there is a red button to push, and it cleans the undercarriage of your car. Once the button is pushed, a noise sounds and a bright lit sign comes up saying “Undercarriage.”
He has loved pushing that button since he’s been a little kid. His level of excitement is the same level as when he first started pushing that button, when he was younger.
It’s very fun to watch him get excited about certain things. And I wonder when that level of excitement will start to go away.
It happens to all of us. As we get older, our childlike excitement wanes.
Remember when you bought your first car and how excited and proud you felt driving that BEATER all around town. Sure, you still get excited when you buy a new car, but that excitement fades almost as soon as you drive it off the lot. It’s not the same.
One of the only times I see excitement stay with a person is when they get cosmetic dental work done.
Every cosmetic patient we see we create a prototype of our proposed cosmetic improvements and it fits over the patient’s existing teeth. As soon as this prototype is placed over the patient’s teeth, this is where the excitement begins.
The patient grabs the mirror and is now able to envision what their teeth will look like. They can touch and feel it. They look into that mirror and a huge smile stretches their entire face.
It’s one of the most exciting parts of my job. To help restore and give someone that confident smile and childlike level of excitement, is an addicting feeling and I love providing it.
