Last week, I wrote about how Michael Strahan had removed his famous gap, between his two front teeth. He posted a picture of himself with this perfect white smile on April 1st.
People all over the country posted how they loved his gap and it made him who he is. Other people posted that they loved the new look and were very encouraging of his decision to perfect his smile.
It turns out that Michael was playing an April Fools joke on everyone. His new enhanced smile was a prototype his dentist had placed on his teeth.None of his natural teeth were altered and this prototype was placed over his natural teeth.
At our office we use this same technique, all the time, to help our patients envision what a smile makeover would look like in their mouth.
We create a plastic prototype that goes over the patient’s natural teeth. This prototype assists the patient to get a mental picture and a feel for what their improved smile will be.
This process is very important because it helps the patient and me to get on the same page. They can point out the things they like about the smile enhancement and the things they would like to change.
We make the necessary changes on the prototype, and not their teeth. When all changes and ideas are done, we place the final, permanent smile on our patient. The result is a happy patient with a beautiful, new smile.
