This past weekend I was in Madison, Wisconsin, meeting up with some college friends. The day was a lot of fun.
We did some boating and then went over to my friend’s house.
When I left my friend’s house, I ordered an Uber. When the Uber was a minute away, I walked out with my friend and waited for the Uber to arrive. At the time there was a torrential thunderstorm, and it was hard to see.
My Uber drove up to the house slowly and pulled into my friend’s neighbor's home. The Uber waited at the top of the neighbor’s driveway close to the street. It was difficult to see, and I was sure the Uber driver was having the same visibility issues that I was having.
I ran quickly towards the car and quickly opened the back door and sat in the car.
There was an older man driving and an older woman in the passenger's seat. They were in their late 70’s.
When I sat in the car and slammed the door shut, the woman began to scream loudly.
Then I realized I was not in my Uber but instead in my friend's neighbor's car.
I apologized multiple times saying, “I’m sorry…I’m sorry…I’m sorry.”
I left quickly and ran to my friend's house laughing hysterically for the embarrassing moment.
I rarely use Uber and that was a total rookie move. People with more Uber riding experience would never have done that move.
Having years of experience is important when trying to make the right decision.
This is no different in dentistry.
Many people come to the dentist with a lot of anxiety. One of the things that helps the patient relax is the confidence of the dentist. That confidence can’t be faked. The only way to get that confidence is years of experience and repetition.
Being able to see and do the same types of procedures over and over helps build a body of work of things that work and don’t work.
This helps the dentist be more decisive thus giving the patient more confidence that they are in the right hands.
I’ve been practicing for almost 25 years, and some may say that I’m at the peak of my career. I’ve seen and performed a lot of dentistry.
