All of us have certain things about our appearance that we do not like. Some people wish they were taller. Some people wish their eyes were a different color. And others want the shape, size, and color of their teeth to be different.
One of our patients noticed that two of the lower front teeth are undersized, compared to the rest of her teeth. She has a gorgeous smile, and her teeth are perfectly shaped except for those two lower teeth.
It’s always bothered her, and it’s been on her mind to do something about it.
I said to her,
“What if we placed some bonding to give you an idea of what it could look like, if these teeth were longer?
We won’t alter your teeth, we will just add some white filling material to give you a visual picture. What do you think?”
She was willing to try because she had nothing to lose. If she didn’t like it then we would take it off. No harm, no foul.
We placed the filling material onto her existing teeth in order to increase the length. And she loved it!
The long-term solution for these teeth would be porcelain veneers. They would look better, and they would last longer. But this cosmetic bonding gives her the confidence to move forward with a more permanent solution, when she is ready.
Giving the patient a visual of what their teeth could look like is the key to a confident, predictable result.
