Mighty Mites

In the burbs, we had a huge cicada infestation. This happened in May, and it lasted for about a month and a half. It was very disgusting.

To me, they looked like cockroaches. They land on you and many times, not knowing, you’d walk around with them.

I am so glad that they are gone…but are they?

The last couple of weeks, I’ve had what looks like mosquito bites all over my body. It’s very itchy and red. About the size of a dime or a nickel.

It has not only affected our family, but our neighbors have also been bitten.

It turns out that these aren’t mosquito bites but rather mites.

These mites love eating the carcasses of the dead cicadas and are higher in numbers because of that.

I was convinced I had mosquito bites. I would never think that I was getting bitten by mites.

At times in my life, I have believed one thing and then it would end up being something completely different.

In dentistry, we have this happen all the time.

Many people will avoid the dentist for years because they believe that their dental situation is a huge problem.

For example, someone may have a cracked tooth and a lot of times they think the tooth will need it pulled. Many times, all the tooth needs is a simple filling.

We psych ourselves out of making a dental appointment a lot of times, because we imagine the problem a lot worse than it actually is.
