Every weekend, I’m the person in our house that does the grocery shopping. I have my system.
I like to get to the store by 10am and no later than 11am. I do this for a couple of reasons.
First, I don’t want to miss the Bears game and want to get my shopping done before then.
Secondly, the store is not busy yet and maneuvering the shopping cart with a less crowded store is way easier. But the main reason that I go at that time is because I have my picks of the best and freshest produce. I’m not left with all the “about to go bad” produce.
I also like to hit different grocery stores for different things.
Some stores have better meats, some have better produce, some of those stores don’t carry all the stuff our family eats so we will go to another store for that stuff.
Some things we buy in bulk because we use it all the time.
So, I may go to Costco for that stuff. I’ve created a list of go-to items for certain things.

The most important thing I do when I go grocery shopping is make a list of the things we need for the week. I go from the list and stick to it.
In the past I used to go to a store, shopping from my memory. I’d buy some of the groceries but would forget others. I’d get home and Sarah would ask, as she was unpacking the bags, “Did you buy (you fill in the blank)?” Then I would respond, “No, I forgot…I’ll go back and buy it.”
I’d get into the car frustrated that I missed that item or items, and I had to go back into the crowded grocery store.
Having a grocery list has made me more organized and more efficient when I go food shopping. As well as reducing any anxiety about forgetting something and having to come back later.
We have similar systems in dentistry as well. Whenever we see a new patient, we give each patient a thorough examination using a list.
We check the teeth, the gums, the bite and do an oral cancer examination. We will present our findings to the patient and come up with an action plan for them.
From our findings, we create a list and organize it by priority of treatment. We will list which treatment is most urgent and go down from there.
This gives the patient an overall view of what’s going on in their mouth and a roadmap on how to get their mouth back into a healthy and beautiful state.
If you are looking to get back on track and would like to obtain a thorough exam of your mouth, please visit us at mydente.com and call 773-292-1911 to schedule your appointment.
