I’ve never really been into playing video games. Growing up, a lot of my friends played but I never got into it.
My son, Finn, loves playing video games. Right now, he’s into playing video games with virtual reality goggles.
These goggles go over his eyes. In his hands he has these remote controls that mimic his movements that are on the screen in his goggles.
When he has his virtual reality (VR) goggles on he loses his sense of where he is in the room. He continuously slams his hands and arms into walls and support beams.
A few weeks ago, I went downstairs and saw Finn playing on a circular bathroom rug. He would stand on the rug with his bare feet so he could feel where he was in the room.

The second he felt he was off the rug then he would reorient himself and get back on the rug.
Since he made that adjustment, he no longer slams into immovable objects.
I had a hard time imagining how Finn’s technique worked. I was unable to visualize it until I saw it.
This is a very normal thing. Whenever there are changes in fields that people have no experience in, they have a very difficult time imagining it until they see it in person.
Dentistry is no different.
Many people want to improve their smiles but are hesitant to move forward because they are not sure how the improvements will change their smiles. They get worried that it will drastically alter their look.
It’s not until they can visualize it in real life, on their face, then they have the confidence to move forward with their treatment.
This is why we give Cosmetic Test Drives on ALL of our cosmetic patients.
It gives them the ability to look at their new enhanced smile before they make any permanent changes to their teeth and smile. They are able to evaluate the size, shape, and color of their enhanced smile.

What we do is make a plastic prototype that fits right over their teeth. This makes the visualization process way easier, and it makes the communication much better.
Now the patient is able to tell us the things they like and the things they want to change with their enhanced smile.
If you are looking to enhance your smile and would like to have a Cosmetic Test Drive, please visit us at mydente.com or call 773-292-1911 to schedule your appointment.
