Family Made Sandwiches

My son plays football. Every once in a while, we will have a tailgate party. Each family member will bring some kind of dish.

This time, we decided to bring mini sandwiches.

Since both Sarah and I work, we will usually farm that stuff out. One of the places that we love is a family-owned sandwich place by the house. It’s called Swanson’s.

Swanson’s has two locations. They have their original location in Beverly and their second location is in La Grange. The owner runs our location and hires all the high school students.

I love going in there and watching all the high school students greet and serve the customers. They greet everyone with a smile and politely ask the customers for their order.

If the customer is struggling with the menu, you’ll never see an eyeroll or a sigh.

They help the customer with the menu and all the different options they can possibly construct for a sandwich.

You never really see anyone just standing around.

The owner will have them fix the displays or constantly cleaning the restaurant.

It is an amazing training ground to learn how to work and an essential place for our community. Oh … and the sandwiches are fantastic.

Back in the day, I always saw these family-owned businesses. Today I see less and less of them. Most of the businesses today are chain corporate-owned facilities.

The second you step into the business you can tell. The displays are perfect, but the employees are disengaged. It’s just a job and a paycheck and that’s the management’s fault, not the employees.

We are seeing this in many medical and dental offices.

The level of care has gone down dramatically since the pandemic. Many places have become disengaged. They make you feel as if you are annoying them or a nuisance.

Corporate has bought out many of these family-owned dental offices. The culture changes immediately once it changes ownership.

I am proud to say that Dente has been a family-owned dental office since the first day. We have been helping our patients for almost 20 years. They have become a part of the family.

I’m at the office every day that it is open. I see each patient and that builds consistency in care.

Unfortunately, the kind of dental care that we deserve is dying out. Nowadays people see a different provider each time they have a dental appointment. It’s very frustrating for many patients.

Many of your friends and family are having that happen to them in their dental appointments.

If you have a friend or family that is going through this, please send them our way. Have them visit us at mydente.com or call 773-292-1911 to schedule their appointment.
