Carlos has been washing my windows for about 18 years. I had a few guys before him that would come once and never show up after that.
Carlos was driving up North Ave 18 years ago. He noticed that we were a new business and thought we didn’t have a regular window washer. I totally remember that day.
He came to the front desk and asked if we needed to get our windows washed. I told him, “You know what…if you’re not going to come every week don’t even bother. I’ve had two guys come and they never came back.”
He told me that he would come back and would do it consistently every week. I agreed and he did just as he told me.
He returned every week and he’s been very consistent for all those 18 years.
About 6 months ago, Carlos missed cleaning our windows for about a month.
I got nervous because that was not like him. I would call him to check in. I tried to leave him a message to tell him I was worried and was checking in, but his voicemail was completely full.
Then one day Carlos appeared. He has lost about 40 pounds and looked weak. His entire family was with him. His wife, his son, and his daughter. He told me that he had gotten very sick and was unable to work.
I loved watching his family rally around their dad and help him support his customers.
Since then, his 13-year-old daughter is the one that I see consistently with her dad. She helps her dad wash the windows so they can get done quicker and he can get home sooner to rest.
When they come here, they go the extra mile to make us happy. Zhana will ask them, “Hey can you guys get this area over here or do this piece of glass?” They always smile and give an enthusiastic yes.
This is a common theme I see in family-owned businesses. The amount of customer attention is at a different level than in the big corporate offices.
In dentistry it's no different.
A growing trend in dentistry is the mom-and-pop shops are being gobbled up by a corporate dental conglomerate. The offices then become less friendly and more sterile. The two things that do not jive with a person who has a fear of the dentist.
Every day we are getting new patients that are finding a new dental home. Their dentist that they loved has sold their practice and they are not connecting with the new owners. We get these calls almost daily.
I am sure that you have family, friends and coworkers that are going through the same issues with their dental providers. Let your people know you have the place for them.
You can describe us like this: “My dentist has been practicing for almost 25 years. He’s had his own office for almost 20 years. His staff are super nice and attentive to your concerns. Whenever I go to their office, he’s the only dentist that sees me. I’m not being bounced around from dentist to dentist. And they specialize in anxious patients and take their time for you to be comfortable."
If you know of anyone that is looking for a new dental office, please have them visit us at mydente.com and call 773-292-1911 to schedule their appointment.
