About a year and half ago, I started a cosmetic dentistry accreditation. It’s a journey to a higher level of proficiency within the cosmetic dental world.
I decided to do this accreditation because I wanted to set a goal to help push myself to another level.
I started and then all of a sudden, the pandemic hit and closures started rolling in. Everything went on hold.
At that time, I had started training with one of my cosmetic instructors and traveling to Iowa.
Once the pandemic hit, all travel stopped and so did my training.
Last weekend, I started my training again with Marcos Vargas. He is a phenomenal dentist. A complete artist but an even better instructor.
It’s difficult to find a someone who is very talented at their craft while also being able to teach about their skill in a way that is understandable to others.
Most great coaches were mediocre players. They were students of the game and analyzed each movement to an intense amount of detail.
Vargas is a rare breed. His technique is at a very high level. His ability to teach is just as high. And his approachability is even higher.
Last week, I arrived at his office at 8:30am and left at 3:30pm.
During that time about 4 people came in to get his advice on certain cases. These people ranged from 4th year dental students to faculty. The way he treated each person with kindness and respect was completely the same.
He has a love of teaching and a desire to share his knowledge. You never get a condescending tone or frustration when you don’t get the concept.
He stops, thinks about what you’re not understanding and then delivers the explanation in another way.
I really appreciated the time Dr. Vargas took with me to help me with my technique and will be forever grateful.
Floss like a madman!
